Did you know…the 1st women’s golf tournament was held in 1811 at Musselburgh Golf Club in Scotland? Yes, women played golf before 1811 but this was the first organized tournament. Guess what 1st prize was? A fishing basket!
Did you know…the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) was founded in 1950. The founding members were/are Marilynn Smith, Babe Zaharias, Shirley Spork, Sally Sessions, Helen Hicks, Opal Hill, Alice Bauer, Patty Berg, Bettye Danoff, Helen Dettweiler, Marlene Hagge, Betty Jameson, and Louise Suggs. Did you know…In order to play collegiate golf you must register in the NCAA eligibility center? The NCAA Eligibility Center certifies the academic and amateur credentials of all college-bound student athletes who wish to compete in NCAA Division I or II athletics. So if you are looking to play golf in college or any sport in college for that matter, you must register online! The NCAA recommends that you register the beginning of your sophomore year.
Did you know…That you can attend/pull out the flag from anywhere on the course? Phil Mickleson, in the video below, has his caddy tend the flagstick from 72 yards away! If you are that confident then GO FOR IT!
Did you know… That you receive a free drop from any sprinkler head if your ball lies on it or if it interferes with your swing or stance? So if you are ever in a bush look around for any sprinklers. If you find one close enough to your feet or ball you may receive a free drop from the bush!
